Stunning Meiji 4 Panel Folding Room Divider ScreenVictorian Export Style Two 3 Clawed DragonsSpectacular Geometric Patterned Background An interesting embroidery technique using metal leafed paperwrapped around silk threads and then couched onto the substrate.Dragons are very 3 dimensional. Brown and gold brocade fabric panels on the reverse.Appears to be silk. Some brittleness to the fabric with some splits and tears and abrasion along edges.The kind of wear and aging one would expect of something this age. Carved ebonized wood components with phoenix and peonies.Top panel on 2nd from right screen has slight separationfrom warping (estimated) and there are a few losses of wood,splintered off. On the bottom of the far left panel on the inside right corner a little section is missing.In the 2 years I've been looking at this I'd never noticed until taking these photos. Approximately 8' in width and 6' in height. All in all I think it is in good to very good condition.It may not be as bright as it was originallybut being textiles exposed to light, so so air quality,and moving half way across the worldwith various stops over 100-130+ years,it's quite the survivor.
