JAPANESE SWORD KOTO WAKIZASHI in Kai Gunto Koshirai signed w/ Shirasaya - $2,999 - (Manchester, NJ)
This is a beautiful, signed wakizashi by Bizen Ju Norimune in recent polish. It comes in a shirasaya and the Kai Gunto fittings are in very nice condition and held together by a tsunagi. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SWORD STAND IS NOT INCLUDED. There is also a storage bag for the shirasaya and the koshirae. The gold washed habaki has a falling rain pattern. Overall the fitti gs are very clean. There is also an original leather combat cover which has some loose stitching at the tip and along the shaft. Norimune worked in the Tenbun era (1532-1555). The sword is signed "Bizen Ju Norimune." It has a beautiful, wavy temper line. Measurements are:Overall - about 26"Nagasa - 52.5 cmKissaki is an extended medium kissaki, about 3.6 cmThe numbers on the fittings all match. Japanese naval officers frequently mounted ancestral blades in Kai Gunto koshirae. It was not uncommon for them to mount a wakizashi in a longer scabbard. This saved weight and fulfilled the requirements. Since the officers in the navy did not usually have direct combat roles but served ashore or on ships, the length of the sword did not matter. PLEASE NOTE: FOR SOME REASON THE SELLING OF THESE SWORDS SEEMS TO ATTRACT NUMEROUS NON-PAYING BIDDERS. ACCORDINGLY, IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN TEN (10) FEEDBACKS AS A BUYER PLEASE CONTACT ME PRIOR TO PLACING A BID OR I WILL HAVE TO CANCEL YOUR BID.
