Vintage 1930's Chimayo Rug 54" x 88" Wool Woven Blanket - $50 - (Monticello, FL)

Vintage Chimayo Rug 54" x 88" Wool Woven Blanket. The 54" x 88" measurement excludes the fringes. Chimayo Weaving takes its name from the village of Chimayo, New Mexico, which was settled in the late 1600's by the Spanish. They brought their European looms and weaving techniques with them, and the area around around Chimayo in the northern Rio Grande Valley, became a weaving center of the southwest. The weavers are all of hispanic descent, many of them tracing their family history back to eight or more generations of weavers. Chimayo weaving is Hispanic, but it is not Mexican and not Native American. There is no tribal affiliation. It is part of the Spanish Colonial Art Heritage of Northern New Mexico. We are liquidating a local estate of a person who collected Native American Indian Artifacts and other Native American Indian Items. This blanket was inside of an old steamer trunk with several other blankets. It was in storage for over 20 years and smells a little musty. From the information that we have, this blanket dates to the 1930's and he purchased it in the 1960's. It is in acceptable condition. It has several areas that look like the moths got to it but it's integrity is still intact and solid. Please see all photos, I have tried to take good pics of the damage. Please see my other auction for a Navajo Saddle Blanket. Shipping charges are based on actual weight of item when packed. Florida residents add 7% sales tax. Thanks!
