2 ANTIQUE MATTHEWS CO STERLING SILVER CANDLESTICKS CANDLEHOLDERS 7 15/16" 355 g - $85 - (Delray Beach, FL)
This elegant pair of antique sterling silver candlesticks was produced by Matthews Company in Newark, New Jersey sometime between 1907 and 1933. (The Matthews Company started in 1907 and in 1933 they merged with Eleder-Hickok company to become Hickok-Matthews Company, which survives to this day.) Each measures almost eight inches tall and together they weigh 355 grams. These are not marked "WEIGHTED", but the base states that the "INTERIOR IS FILLED WITH PITCH", so they do have extra, non-silver, weight. Approximate Dimensions: 7 15/16"H x 3 1/16"D Marked: "M" logo (Matthews Co), "STERLING", "INTERIOR IS FILLED WITH PITCH" Total Approximate Weight: 355g / 12.54 oz / 11.43 ozt / 228.7 dwt They are in good condition for their age. There are some scratches, small dents/dings (mostly light except on the underside of the base - see photo 11), and one of the candlesticks leans slightly.
