Antique 1600 - 1700's Hudson's Bay Company Firelighting Strikers/Double Strikers - $550 - (Brant, ON)

Collection of 8 firelighting strikers / double strikers and 1 flint stone. Circa late 1600's to early 1700's, likely distributed by the Hudson's Bay Company. Museum deaccessions, found at the Beale site, East Bloomfield, New York. Flint and Steel strikers are the "old fashion" way of starting fires. During the Fur Trade Era this item was one of man's most valued possessions. When the flint is struck against the steel (or the steel against the flint) in a downward quick motion, a spark is produced. For the best result the flint and steel were used in conjunction with a substance that will catch a spark well such as dry grass, leaves, twigs, etc. Display Box Measurements: 8 1/4 inches x 6 1/4 inches
