ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING [18th CENTURY] - OVAL STRETCHER BARS [16" x 20") - NO FRAME - $2,000 - (Bartlesville, OK)
I AM OFFERING, IN VERY GOOD PRE-OWNED AND DISPLAYED CONDITION FOR ITS AGE (CLEAN PRE-OWNED AND DISPLAYED EXAMPLE. SOME RANDOM AND SMALL AREAS WITH MISSING PAINT [VERY RESTORABLE]. PAINTING NEEDS A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS. I COULD NOT FIND A SIGNATURE OR DATE, BUT THE STYLING OF THE BONNET APPEARS TO BE FROM THE EARLY 18th CENTURY TO THE LATE 18th CENTURY OR VERY EARLY 19th CENTURY, BUT IF SOMEONE KNOWS FOR SURE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION), AND EARLY [1700's or EARLIER] OIL PAINTING THAT WAS MOUNTED ON OVAL STRETCHER BARS THAT ESTABLISH THE PAINTING AS BEING 16" x 20". FR THE MOST PART THE PAINTED SURFACES ARE RATHER SMOOTH DESPITE THE AGE, BUT THE ARTIST USED RAISED AREAS OF PAINT TO DEFINE THE DELICATE CENTER PATTERN FOUND ON THE WHITE SHOULDER/NECK GARMET, WHICH I FELT WAS AN UNUSUAL STATEMENT BY THE ARTIST, AND MAY HAVE ALSO BEEN IMPORTANT TO THE WOMAN BEING PAINTED. THE STRETCHER BARS ARE PRIMATVE TO SAY THE LEAST AND APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN SHAPED BY HAND ON SOME OF THE SURFACES. THE LEVEL OF OXIDATION ON THE SURFACES OF THE WOOD ALSO REFLECT A SIGNIFICANTLY OLD PAINTING AND THE OXIDIATION ON THE CANVAS [BACK SIDE PRMARILY] ALSO REFLECTS SIGNICANT AGE. THE CANVAS OR MATERIAL USED HAS A HEAVY LOOK TO IT ON THE FRONT SIDE WHERE THERE IS A SMALL SPOT OF MISSING PAINT NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE PAINTING.
