We believe Cypress lumber is the best wood for beehives. Cypress is lightweight, rot resistant, phenol free, and does not need painting. Honey bees process lots of water in the honey business.The unpainted wood helps to wick inner moisture to the outside. The wood is number 2 or higher. Cypress is naturally curly with lots of swirls and variation in the golden wood grain. Cypress is ideal for beekeeping because it naturally wicks moisture and is very, very slow to decompose. It is phenol (plant toxin) free, and does not need to be painted or treated. THE ITEM is 10-frame size and includes TWO choice grade 9 5\8 CYPRESS HIVE BROOD BOXES AND THREE 6 5\8 HONEY SUPERS. THE 6 5\8 BOXES CALLED MEDIUM OR ILLINOIS DEPTH HOLDS AROUND 40 LBS OF HONEY per box when full. The Deep 9 5\8" box weighs in about 90 lbs when full. The beehives ship quickly, unassembled, with holes pre-drilled for easy assembly. Galvanized box nails are included. The boxes are made to industry standard 16 1/4 x 19 7\8 inches and are compatible with all brands of Langstroth hives frames. These boxes will last many, many seasons even untreated, and your bees will love to call them home. This hive package is a natural product, and the pictures are representative.
