Squash - Pennsylvania Dutch - 25 seeds + Free Gift - $2 - (Stuart, IA)

(Cucurbita moschata) Very large butternut-type squash produced abundantly by vigorous, healthy vines. If you've struggled with squash bugs, we recommend you try Pennsylvania Dutch or another variety from the C. moschata species. Their solid-cored stems are more resistant to squash bugs than the hollow-cored stems of C. pepo and C. maxima. Pennsylvania's finely textured flesh is sweet and the necks of the squash are seed-free making prep work easier. We like to slice them into french fries which we deep fry or oven roast until very crispy (they will soften as they cool.) We then sprinkle them with Cajun seasoning and serve. Highly recommended for those of you with picky eaters-- they're good enough to turn more than a few "squash haters." 105 days to harvest. 25 seeds/pkt. CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds in hills with 4-5 seeds per hill and hills spaced 6ft in all directions. Germination will occur in 7-14 days. Once seeds have germinated thin to 3 seedlings per hill. We offer fresh, GMO-free seed from heirloom and open-pollinated varieties that have been tested and proven in our own home garden. As a professional geneticist and passionate gardener, I take special care to ensure that the genetic diversity of each cultivar is maintained while keeping an eye on varietal purity. We take great pride in offering the highest quality of seed possible. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact us and we will do all we can to make it right.
