1940s Edwardian Style Wide Brim Hat Lavender Purple Clamshell Pancake Hat click picture to enlarge Description An absolutely over-the-top Old Hollywood glam 1940s lavender purple woven rayon, sculptured clamshell or pancake wide brim hat. Better yet, this is also an Edwardian style hat - see the photo of an Edwardian lady wearing a similar hat with a few more flowers on the top. A picture hat extraordinaire, the hat has a narrower and plainer brim at the back, with a wider brim at the front and sides sculptured into dips and swoops, with soft, white silk flowers that look like magnolias and green leaves on the front of the upper brim. The hat fits with two adjustable, matching, chenille covered wire holders (see photos), one on each side of the head, and looks especially glamorous when worn at an angle. In typical pancake style, the hat is all brim and almost no crown, and there is a thin woven, spring green rayon hatband, more like a rope really, around the flat crown and crossed over in a little bow at the back of the brim. Inside is a matching lavender grossgrain ribbon hatband. It looks like a designer hat, but any designer label that may have originally been in the hat has been lost over time. The only issues with the hat are minor wear consistent with the age of the hat, bearing in mind that this hat is probably at least 70 years old. This is NOT a reproduction - this is an original 1940s Old Hollywood starlet glamor hat that would be totally at home in an Edwardian costume with the possible addition of a few more silk flowers. The hat would fit most. This is the perfect hat for the elegant Edwardian or 1940s garden party or summer event. Classy and classic 1940s, but also all Edwardian.
