This is true to the time period of the 1860s this appears to have all the original finish. This has been altered in the1960s by the previous owner. The bed was a tad over 8 foot tall. These Lincoln style head boards are always a four part assembly. This headboard was lowered about four inches so it would fit in a modern 8 foot ceiling. however this could be raised back to its original height but as far as were concerned it is monumental looking and would leave it the way it is. ANOTHER GREAT FEATURE IN THE 1960s the rails were lengthened 4 inches you can see where this was added in the photos above.
