Antique Early American Solid Walnut Bible with Brass Corner Braces - $355 - (Manti, UT)
Found in nearly all early American homes was a Bible and typically those precious, (and acquired at significant personal expense,) Bibles were kept for safety in some type of box, often wooden. The boxes varied from very elaborate works of art made by the finest craftsmen to ones homemade from hand hewn boards from nearby trees. This one is a stunning example of an early American Bible Box. It is made from solid walnut with brass corner brackets and right angle braces, a brass latch, and an engraved brass emblem on the top featuring a folliage pattern with some type of blue/green stone. It is in near perfect condition for its age with no cracks, tight hinges, all brass corner braces solid and intact. The solid walnut grain is beautiful on all sides but the front panel has patterning that catches light and highlights the depth of the grain for which walnut is so famous. It does have has some minor flaws, a scratch on the top near the engraved emblem, a 1/2 inch chip out of the wood inlay on the right corner, a green felt interior that certainly is not original, and a couple of stains on the left front top. None of these flaws would be unexpected for a box such as this one. It is good sized, 16 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, 6.25 inches high, and weighing over 5 pounds. Please look at the pictures closely. While we believe the box is a Bible Box, it certainly is not limited to just that use. It would make a beautiful table box or certainly a lovely dresser box, useful for storing a variety of treasures in a special container. We hope to find a well worn Bible to accompany it and will offer it now for $355.00 or best offer. We always ship items for the actual cost with no additional handling or service charges. Also, if you are unsatisfied with any of our items we always accept returns with a full refund of the purchase price...
