This is an antique Gibbs Horse Trotter Wood Cart Toy. The trotters were made starting in 1908. The Gibbs Manufacturing Co. of Canton, OH, originally was making plows and farm machinery. In 1896, the company added toys, specializing in lithographed paper-on-wood, metal, wagons, spinning tops and advertising toys. The company's first toy was a political spinning top given away in William McKinley's presidential campaign. The toy articulates pretty well, trotting as the toy is pulled and the wheels turn. It is in good condition for age with just a small loss of the litho on horse's head. The overall size is 13 inches long and 5 inches tall.
