Offered for sale is this partial set of 1903 books titled, THE CENTURY DICTIONARY AND CYCLOPEDIA published by The Century Co. out of New York and prepared by William Dwight Whitney Editor in Chief. The set is missing volume 10 so this is for volumes 1-9 only. The decorative hardcovers are one half leather and have a great "old" look to them. The covers are "splitting" along the spine seams with some being a little better that others but some have separated. I would rate the hardcovers as poor to fair overall with the pages being very good to excellent. The photos here are showing Volume 1 with some of the beautiful color plates in it. The pages are tight and still very bright and clean showing very light yellowing, less than one would expect. The covers have wear on the edges and some scuffing as to be expected. They are well illustrated throughout with small printed engravings. The books measure about 12" by 9 1/2" and are fairly large and very heavy. They have colored page edges also. This is a very decorative partial set of books and would look good on any bookshelf. Shipping and handling to any of the lower 48 states is $8.00 and will be paid for by the winning bidder.
