Japanese antique samurai gendaito shinsakuto katana choji tamahagane - $1,800 - (Woodville, OH)

For sale is a mounted quality tamahagane samurai sword from Japan. The katana is signed Hizen Kuni Masayoshi Saku. Meaning province of Hizen, Kuni meaning "resident of", smith maker is Masayoshi, Saku (made this). Masayoshi's given name is Taguchi Shoichi and worked from 1926-1989. This handmade tamahagane blade has a very active tempered choji (clover patter) hamon with floating jewels called tobiyaki, ko-nie-ji-nie, sunagashi and chikei. This sword has a beautifully forged hada called konuka rice grain or pear skin, Hizen blades are known for this hada. The boshi is O-maru in a chu-kissaki tip. The overall length is 40 1/8", blade length is 26 5/8" and tsuka handle of 10". The blade is thickness is 5/16", 1 1/4" wide at habaki tapering to 1" wide at yokote. The large sukashi style tsuba with what looks to be like petals is 3 5/8" across and 1/4" thick. The tsuka handle has menuki of samurai tachi and kabuto helmet wrapped under a worn blueish silk ito. The fuchi kashira end caps are of a higo style. The saya is a brownish red with a long black sageo cord. The blade has no chips, cracks or openings in hada and is very sharp. Sword comes with sword bag.
