The Sheldon 17b and Sheldon 20a are the only two varieties of large cents that are both "NC" record variety large cent coins and also have Sheldon numbers. The S-17b/ NC-4 is so rare, it is likely you will never see another one of these coins available for sale in the next couple decades or longer. Called a rarity 8, with only two known. I have blessed to own both of them at one time. I bought the other 17b/ NC-4 in a group of complete 1794 NC coins from Dan Trollan in 2012 and later sold this variety to Adam Mervis, which is graded one point higher at AG3 by NGC, but not nearly as nice as this specimen is because the coin is fairly rough. I just got this coin graded back last week at, The Long Beach Coin Expo, It has never been graded before. It is graded Fair 2 by PCGS, Gordon Wrubel, a long time grader at PCGS did tell me later that he was about 50/50 on grading it AG3. I think because of the obverse strike and some reverse it should of graded AG3. This coin came from; The Chuck Heck's Collection, and auctioned by Ira and Larry Goldberg auctioneer's and M&G auctions as well. This coin has very smooth surfaces excellent color, both sides have lovely medium chocolate brown color with amber tan like hues.This coin has average plus surfaces with great eye appeal, which is very rare in a early NC, large cent- variety.
