Pre- War Style D-18 Acoustic Guitar Kit With Adirondack Top - $375 - (Beverly, WV)
This kit is designed to allow someone to build a very close copy of a Pre-War 1930's style Martin D-18 guitar using special wood listed below. This D-18 style guitar kit includes old-growth Adirondack Red spruce top ( AGED WELL SEASONED TOP 30 YEARS 0F AIR DRYING) that already has a Martin style D-18 rosette installed and just needs the rosette sanded down even with the top. This soundboard came from a red spruce tree harvested in West Virginia, and many guitar makers including C.F. Martin Co., have used wood from West Virginia to build many great sounding guitars. West Virginia red spruce has a long history in being used by US guitar companies back in the 1920 and 1930's. The top is already sanded down to thickness and just needs a little final sanding when installed. Provided is pre-bent old -growth AAA+ grade Honduras mahogany sides." PLEASE NOTE" that the mold does not come with this kit but is used to hold the sides to shape until the kit is sold. The back is old- growth master grade Honduras Mahogany and comes with a ebony center strip like on the old Martin D-18 guitars and the back is sanded down and ready for gluing together. Provided is an old-growth Honduran mahogany neck that is dovetailed and matches the dovetailed neck mahogany neck block that is larger than most other neck blocks to allow for duplicating the larger neck blocks that were used on the C.F. Martin 1930's D-18's. The neck comes with a pair of ears for gluing to the peghead to make it wider. Provided is a Honduras mahogany tailblock. It includes a Macassar ebony fingerboard and bridge. The fingerboard is radiused, slotted and just needs the round dot inlays installed and is 1 11/16" at he nut and 2 1/8" at the 12 fret in width. The bridge is for the standard 2 1/8" string spacing and is ready to go for gluing to the top.
