The exceptional “cushion cut” four-sided form is squarer towards the top and round towards the bottom. Very finely detailed, hand-painted and enameled “thousand faces” of rakan (saints) and spotted dragons are magnificently set against a gold gilt background. Each vase is slightly different, yet similarly mirrored to be a mated pair. They are properly hallmarked with the red and gold circular Shimazu family crest over the artist producer signature of “Hotoda”. Museum quality. Condition: Very good vintage condition with no observed cracks or repairs. Normal crazing and minor wear commensurate with age. Just Fantastic! Size: About 12 inches high x 6 inches across.
