These were printed in 1701 using wooden stamps. The cards was used to write in the back a description of the Desjardins family crest/ shield. These exact same cards were used in New France as playing card money. The Royal Canadian Mint struck in 2008/2009 a set of four 15-dollar cards in sterling silver (see picture) to commemorate this very important numismatic event in Canada. Detailed information about the back of the card: It provides information about the family shield (blazon in French) of Martin Desjardins (1637-1694) sculptor and member of the Académie Royale.
