Canada Ireland 1834 George Ords Halfpenny Brass HIGH GRADE - $325 - (Toronto, ON)

This is a rarely offered 1834 George Ords halfpenny. Charlton indicates brass is of lower value than copper but most coins offered at auction or on eBay seem to be copper. Given that this is a scarce token overall and gets little attention, I wonder if the Charlton catalogue simply keeps perpetuating an old error. Also, Charlton indicates that coins of this type were only "Canadian" if they were well worn. Personally I think that this is again a perpetuated old wive's tale. This coin was always struck with very weak details and any coin in circulation for any length of time would quickly get worn. So logicaly all coins seen are generally worn. Also, if it were true that better grade coins were kept in Ireland, you would expect to see higher grade coins occassionally offered for sale in Ireland. However these are almost never offered in Ireland and are almost never seen with this level of details anywhere. So I think that this is just a coin that is very scarce anywhere with nice details.Shipping is $2.50 in North America, $3.50 elsewhere. $0.50 for extra coins.
