I bought it and put it together and then I read the directions which says that if it hits big rocks or roots it will kick back and you have no notice of this happening. I had never used an auger before and I bought it for the sole purpose of digging holes around stumps so I could dig them out. So not only are there roots, but where I live there are many, many rocks.
