Antique Vintage 1940's Hand Carved Box Very Old Woman Signed - $40 - (Auke Bay, AK)

This was in my great grandfathers world war II stuff, so is probably from that time period. He likely brought it back from being overseas. It is a hand made, hand carved authentic solid wood box. It features a lovely woman wearing a head band and necklace, her hair in a bun. The same carving is on the inside of the lid. The hinges work, but seem a little loose. The hinges have writing I am unable to make out, but the words seem Italian. The signature carved into the box is COS, but I cannot find any information on the signature. Really one of a kind old treasure! It is old has some wear, please see photos! Box dimensions are 6.25 x 4.25 x 1.25 inches.
