RARE 1796 Sketch Finances of United States, FRANKLIN Signature? Albert Gallatin - $750 - (Clemmons, NC)

A Sketch of the Finances of the United States. By Albert Gallatin Published: New-York : Printed by William A. Davis, no. 438 Pearl Street. (Copy-right secured.), 1796 199 pp. Hardcover in original binding. Spine virtually gone, so boards hanging on by a thread. Appears to be incomplete, as the text stops at p.199, but the work calls for 205 pp. Also, it lacks pp. 75-78, which I believe were supposed to be the four foldout leaves, that are thus missing. What is most curious about this copy is the signature that appears on the front board. The name "Franklin" is signed four different times. The book was published after Benjamin Franklin's death, so it is not him, but the signature looks very similar to him. Maybe this is a relative, or just a mere coincidence on the name. No way for me to know, but I offer it up with full disclosure. Some minor dampstaining to the text, but all in all a nice copy. Not Ex-Lib. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
