This sale is for a very scarce Watkins-Johnson WJ-8712A DSP receiver that has been improved the match the latest iteration of the WJ-8711A receiver, except this unit is controlled by computer. Thus, while the front panel of the unit is a WJ-8712, this is the later version....the WJ-8712A as it is represented here for sale. This receiver was shipped to a Watkins-Johnson expert who replaced the A2 board and and upgraded the EPROMS to match the very last firmware found in the 8711A receiver. It is basically a hybrid receiver carrying the WJ-8712 nomenclature, but operating as the later 8712A(8711A) unit. For operation, the receiver will require a null modem cable, proper computer input connectors, and software to operate it. Users may utilize either the DRS WJ-RCS32 software or Ergo software. There may be other software options available, but we offer no software with this unit and cannot suggest anything beyond what was conveyed to us. We were also informed that this unit is also operationally identical to the 8711A receiver and that you could attach an 8711A front panel to the unit via the front panel ribbon data cable and operate it without a computer, but must make sure that the pins are aligned correctly when attaching the 25 pin connector of the 8711 receiver and the 24 pin connector of the 8712...pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. (pin 25 should not have any connection lest damage occur to the EPROM). There is also a wire harness within the 8712 that requires a 5 VDC connection to the 8711A front panel. Cosmetically, this is not a pristine unit, but it still has a nice appearance overall. Please look closely at our HD pictures to know exactly what you will expect to receive upon delivery. Operationally, the receiver works perfectly with no issues or shortcomings. The receiver comes with documents on a CD and an audio cable as fashioned by the previous owner. There is little information regarding the WJ-8712A receiver online. We are thus inclined to provide …
