Conn 6H Tenor Trombone in Silver Plate (Elkhart, circa 1925) - $950 - (Appling, GA)
Here is a beautiful, old Elkhart Conn 6H, serial number dates it to around 1925. This trombone is an absolutely fantastic player, and is particularly well suited for jazz, pit orchestra and lighter classical fare (especially chamber work). This horn is in silver-plate, with a satin finish on portions of the bell. The bell flare itself also features a gold-wash, which has faded somewhat over 90 years, but still present. The silver plating is in overall very good condition, with conspicuous wear at the contact points. There is also some pushing in on the bow of the slide, but this does not affect the action. The inner slides from horns of this era generally were not nearly as smooth as modern slides, so I've replaced the original tubes with modern tubes, so the action is greatly improved. While doing so, I also had it set up for interchangeable, friction fit leadpipes. Included is a new, 1930's Burkle 32H leadpipe in yellow brass from the BrassArk. I can personally attest that the new leadpipe has been a significant improvement for the horn. (The new leadpipe and the replacement of the slide tubes alone it about a $500 value) Like a lot of horns from this time, the slide is friction fit (no bell lock nut). It does, however, have a slide lock. This is a beautiful old horn, that has been updated to make it a suitable modern player, while maintaining its original character. This is definitely one that needs the right owner to fully appreciate it! I welcome any and all questions, and I offer a generous return policy, free shipping, and have 100% positive feedback, so you can buy with absolute confidence. Thanks for looking!
