This impressive piano was built by the Sohmer Piano Company in 1877. It is a large, full size square grand piano with the full, rich tone quality Sohmer was famous for. Being such a late instrument makes this piano very well evolved and fairly “modern” in design for a square grand piano. The instrument is made of Brazilian Rosewood and is of the carved Rococo Cabriole-Leg style design.This instrument was built only five years after the founding of the Sohmer Piano Co. in New York City. Sohmer was one of the top American brand names, building superior pianos for over a century. This piano is in almost completely original condition. It was refinished as the original finish had lost its luster. The rest of the instrument is all original parts and strings. The entire action was disassembled and each part carefully cleaned, lubricated and reassembled by one of the top piano restoration specialists in the Southeast. The original strings were cleaned as was the soundboard. This piano was tuned to standard pitch of A=440. The action was regulated and it plays as it did when built. Receipts available.
