Paul Hanet Georgian Rat-Tail Britannia Standard Silver Serving Spoon London 1721 - $113 - (Plymouth, MA)

A lovely Britannia standard silver rat-tail serving spoon or tablespoon made in London in 1721 by the distinguished Huguenot silversmith Paul Hanet. The spoon is marked to the back of the stem with a very clear lion's head erased (unusually, nearest to the bowl, where the maker's mark is more commonly stamped), Paul Hanet's maker's mark, the date letter F, and a worn but discernible Britannia mark. It is in good condition, with surface wear commensurate with age and has a period heraldic crest engraved to the handle. The crest is rubbed and quite difficult to make out. A wonderful spoon! L: 7 3/4in/20cm; W: 66g/2.12 troy oz.
