KING LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE. Louis XIV (b. 1638) was the King of France from 1643 to 1715. He was known as the “Sun King” for the glittering splendor of his court at Versailles and the unparalleled glory of France during his 72 year reign. MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENT SIGNED BY KING LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE AND COUNTERSIGNED BY LOUIS PHELYPEAUX AS SECRETARY OF STATE Manuscript document in French signed by King “Louis” XIV of France with his rare wax seal attached and countersigned by Louis Phelypeaux as Secretary of State. Phelypeaux (1643-1727) was Minister of the Marine in 1699 when he was appointed Chancellor of France, a post he held until 1717. ACCOMPANIED WITH THE KING’S RARE WAX SEAL ATTACHED TO THE DOCUMENT The document is one page, measures 18” by 10.5”, was created on July 28, 1692, and is in very good condition with a tear due to the weight of the wax seal and minor wrinkling of the vellum. A similar document signed by King Louis XIV recently sold for $2,360 at King Galleries in March of 2013.
