RARE SET OF SIX BLACK-PAINTED HOOP BACK WINDSOR SIDE CHAIRS, AMERICAN, CA 1800 - $3,000 - (Webster, NY)
Real set of six authentic period American Windsor chairs. Not an assembled set. Early nineteenth century. Seven spindles. Shaped pine saddle seats. Bamboo turnings. Chairs had been stripped of original black paint and sloppily refinished years ago. Now fully restored in original black and professionally aged with signs of wear with show-through at typical points on seats, spindles, bows and stretchers. Front of seats have been lightly buffed to replicate years of use. No replaced parts. Chairs are rock-solid and usable. All glue joints are tight. Some age cracks in the seats were filled. Three chairs have added 1/8" to one front leg each to level them. Two chairs have old sheet tin repairs to the underside of seats and have been left in place. Chairs are not signed. Seat height is 17", with very slight variation. Height to top of bow is 36", also with vary slight variation. Seat widths 14 3/4" to 15". Local pickup only in Rochester, NY by buyer or buyer's movers.
