This statue of the Jain Saint Mahavira is reputed to be between 125 and 150 years old. It is made of marble. Unlike almost every other marble statue in my collection, this one is unbroken and in excellent shape, given its age. DIMENSIONS 1 Ft in HEIGHT 1 ft 5 inches AROUND 8 inches AT BASE Over 25 lbs in weight Although many consider Lord Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni) the historical Buddha millions of Jains the world over look to an older contemporary of Siddhathas, Mahavira as the historical Buddha. It is Mahavira who established what are today considered to be the central tenets of the Jainism religion. And according to Jain tradition he was the 24th and last "Tirkathara" or great Buddhas of the world.
