Turntable - $1,300 - (Montclair, NJ)
Sound of the Wood (SOTW) AR ES-1 Turntable modification This is a classic rebuild of the AR ES-1 Turntable done by Eric Whitacre at Sound of the Wood. The table features a powder coated sub-platter, motor plate and modified bearing T-Bar chassis. These modifications help in reducing the “ringing” effect found with standard metal sub-chassis systems. It also lowers the resonance of plinth down to 9-11 hz, which is optimum for high quality tone-arm/ MC cartridges (equipped with moving coil with less than 30 hours). The original motor was replaced with Gold Series motor attached to an external SOTW power supply which lowers EMI (60-120 hz harmonic frequencies) by 5 dbl.The Sound of the Wood™ Power Supply removes the electronics entirely from the table and provides a cleaner power source for your set by optimizing voltage and capacitance ($499 option included) The supply box also has a front panel switch for optimized use with older, (1970's) tables like the XA series. The switch changes the capacitance supplied to the motor and is optimized for the Haydon and Airpax motors. This works with or without the speed box, and with the original or the new SOTW motor. Your turntable is then connected via an 8-wire shielded plug & play cable. A 10mm high density acrylic platter with ring helps reducing resonance between the tone-arm and the motor, again reducing “acoustic ringing Additional modifications include a low resonance tone-are board matched for the Rega 300-770 series tonearms (moving coil included with less than 30 hours). A Gold series dust bug adds ascetics, while cleaning dust from the vinyl (NOT INCLUDED). A new Acrylic dust cover adds beauty to the table.
