Young surveyors compass - $3,000 - (Mauricetown, NJ)

This is a very rare find, it is a pre 1840 (1825-1839) Surveyors compass made by William J Young. His first signatures were "W. J. Young Maker Philadelphia [or Philad.] You can see this on the face of the instrument. After 1840 he began marking his instruments with "Wm. Y. Young Maker Philadelphia [or Philad.] At this time he also began marking the units with serial numbers, something this unit does not have. The compass and all of it's components are in immaculate condition for their age. The box even comes with it's original key. You'll be hard pressed to find another compass in this condition.
