OLIVER WOLCOTT. Oliver Wolcott (1726–1797) was an American military officer and Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut. AUTOGRAPH DOCUMENT SIGNED BY OLIVER WOLCOTT AT 25 YEARS OLD MAKING IT THE EARLIEST SIGNATURE OF WOLCOTT ON THE MARKET Autograph document signed by “Oliver Wolcott” as Sheriff of Litchfield County on May 22, 1752. Wolcott was 25 years old when he wrote and signed this document making it the earliest Wolcott signature on the market. Written on the verso is a writ ordering Wolcott or his deputy to hold the goods or lands of John Beebe and to arrest and have Beebe appear before the County Court. Wolcott acknowledges that he was unable to find Beebe or his estate. Wolcott was more than likely unable to locate Beebe because he moved from Lyme to Waterbury before Wolcott served this writ. Beebe would later fight and become a lieutenant in the French and Indian War. SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM CONNECTICUT ATTEMPTS TO FREEZE THE ESTATE OF AND ARREST A LIEUTENANT IN THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR The document is two pages, measures 6” by 3.75”, and is in fine condition with small marks to the top of the verso. Two similar documents signed by Wolcott as Sheriff sold for $1,300 at Alexander Historical Auctions in May of 2009 and $1,560 at Swann Auction Galleries in April of 2012.
