ANTIQUE 1900 PRESSED STEEL D. P. CLARK & COMPANY "HILL CLIMBER" TOY SHIP - $250 - (Kissimmee, FL)
ANTIQUE & RARE 1900 PRESSED STEEL D. P. CLARK & CO "HILL CLIMBER" TOY SHIP You are bidding on an exceptional "Hill Climber" ship, manufactured by D.P. Clark & Co. of Dayton Ohio. The firm was later sold to the Schieble Toy Mfg Co in 1909. This early version was created in Dayton Ohio around 1900 and is distinguishable as D.P Clark and not a Scheible by a much heavier flywheel and flat cast wheels. Later versions by Scheible have a flywheel that is very thin (1/4 the thickness) and a curve on the outside face of the wheels. D.P. Clark & Co. specialized in sheet-steel novelty and automotive toys with friction and flywheel mechanisms. These early friction toys utilized a set of spoked wheels which contact both the ground and the flywheel. This "Hill Climber" D.P. Clark toy ship measures 12 1/2"L x 5 1/2"T x 4"W. The flywheel is still functional and will move the four wheels beneath the ship. The ship has old paint but is well constructed and quite sturdy. This toy would make any collector proud!
