Civil War CDV Secretary of State William Seward and foreign diplomats at Trenton Falls, New York. Taken in 1863. Seward assembled these distinguished diplomats at the Trenton Falls Hotel to have a chance to demonstrate to them the industrial and agricultural importance of the North, urging them not to give any support to the South. Though not on the back of this card I did include a picture (#6) of the back of another card which included ids for each man in the photo, 1. Wm. H. Seward, Secretary of State; 2. Bertenatti, Italian Minister; 8. Count Piper, Swedish Minister; 9. M. Bodisco, Sec. Russian Legation; Mr. Sheffield, Attache British Legation; Mr. Donaldson, Mess. State Dep. U.S. - Wood engraving reproduction was published in Harper's Weekly, September 19, 1863, p. 593. See picture (#7) this issue of Harpers is not included. Also in picture #8 you can see an auction estimate for this image for $400-$1000. In good if not very good condition, pencil written # 54183 on the back, not sure why.
