Antique Victorian Aesthetic Eastlake Lion Paw Pedestal Tier Carved Mahogany Feet - $895 - (Huntington, IN)

This outstanding American Victorian Aesthetic tiered stand or fernery is crafted entirely of solid mahogany and retains its original 19th c. French polish surface. Measuring just 39 ¾” tall x 15 5/8” x 16” (top) x 16 ¾” square at the splayed deeply knuckled lions paw feet it is at least a 7.5 on anyone’s 10 point scale. Combining elements of Eastlake and the post 1876 “colonial” revival it is solid, stately and obviously from one of the better eastern firms. I can see no unsightly repairs or visually distracting flaws. There is a tight, stable, sturdy split on the bottom shelf. One of the “gothic” open work fret panels between the feet was re-affixed inside out (?!) and there are 4 small returns/brackets (?) missing from the tops of the carved vertical elements dividing the lower shelves. One can see the shadows in the image of the stand upside down. There are minor gaps in the joints from age and shrinkage…nothing unsightly, unexpected or structurally compromising.
