WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON. Historically important autograph letter signed by “W.H. Harrison” as the Whig Party presidential nominee in 1840 to fellow Whig and Senator Daniel Webster. The letter is one page with an integral blank page, measures quarto, was written in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 5, 1840, is in fine condition with minor toning, and has been authenticated by and is accompanied with documentation from Bonhams, one of the leading auction houses in the world. VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON AS THE WHIG PARTY PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE IN 1840 TO FELLOW WHIG AND SENATOR DANIEL WEBSTER Three months after winning the Whig Party nomination, Harrison begins his presidential campaign by focusing on and reaching out to Ohio and States in the West and South: “Our cause is still progressing here (Ohio) but in the States west and south went far beyond our most sanguine hopes.”. Exactly one year after writing this letter, Harrison was inaugurated as President and chose Webster as his Secretary of State. Shortly after giving his infamously lengthy inaugural address, Harrison fell ill, attributed at the time to bad weather suffered during the inauguration, and he passed away just 31 days in office.
