A fob was an important accessory to the 17th and 18th century man. It would have been worn directly attached to the chain of one’s pocket watch. The seal was used as your personal signature. This is an outstanding banded agate fob that dates to the early 19th century. The word, "LIBERTY", is placed over the profile of a closed helmet flanked by a floral swag. Helmets were expressive of status and rank. So the fob likely belonged to an esquire or gentleman. (indicated by the closed mask, in profile). The four feathers or plume represents obedience and justice and the floral swag signifies hope. The initials appear to read, "JJN" or "JJV". Metal: 15 karat rose gold dome, suspended by a sterling silver arch and bail.
