You are bidding on a matched pair of Lion Head Bookends Pre-World War 2 manufacture by Chase Pottery of Japan Regal-looking Lions artfully designed & hand-painted with flowing manes, accentuated eyes and whiskers and colorful highlights, sitting on a black & white speckled base Original black & gold manufacturers labels remain intact on underside of each bookend showing a winged horse and the words, 'Chase Japan'. 'Chase' is an obscure Pottery manufacturer that little is known about. Even Chase collectors have little if any information about the company. It is apparent that these bookends are an extremely scarce item and for them to surface after 75 years and remain in undamaged condition with the original labels still affixed is a near-miracle.
