CHINESE EXPORT SILVER DRAGON ENTREE DISH WARRIORS HOACHING, 1850 A monumental mid 19th century Chinese export silver entree dish. Hoaching, c1850 In our collection for 30 years. The identical entree dish and cover illustrated in Forbes pages 218-219 in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Raised oval. Front shows armies in battle, on horse and foot, battle lances, long swords and archers. Two warriors lay wounded on ground (rare to show this), general watches. Opposite side base visitors in audience with governor and wife in elaborate courtyard, attendants, musicians. Cover figures atop Chinese dragon in crashing waves, figure rides foo lion opposite side one army pursues retreating army (rare to show). All figures and scenes unique from others. Cover with dragon head finial, rising from waves, original fastener. Twin dragon head coiled bodies handles. Atop dragon head feet. Original gold interior, both cover and base. Never monogrammed. This monumental dragon handle entree dish and cover is 15 inches across the handles and weighs 51 standard ounces. Hallmarked as shown. In excellent condition. Rich silver patina. Retains original detail. Stands firm on table, cover well fit to base. Original gold interior in fine state. Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.
