This newspaper contains a front page headline; ""FUNERAL of Admiral (John) PAUL JONES". There is a 1/2 column of coverage of the death and funeral of JOHN PAUL JONES, the very first US Navy hero !! BEST display newspaper I have seen with coverage of the FUNERAL of JOHN PAUL JONES, US Navy hero and "father of the US Navy". John Paul Jones (born John Paul; July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was a Scottish American sailor and the United States' first well-known naval fighter in the American Revolutionary War. Although he made many friends and enemies among America's political elites, his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him an international reputation which persists to this day. As such, he is sometimes referred to as the "Father of the American Navy" (an epithet he shares with John Barry). He later served in the Imperial Russian Navy, subsequently obtaining the rank of rear admiral. In May 1790 Jones arrived in Paris, where he remained in retirement until his death two years later, although he made a number of attempts to re-enter the service in the Russian navy. In June 1792, Jones was appointed U.S. Consul to treat with the Dey of Algiers for the release of American captives. Before Jones was able to fulfill his appointment, however, he was found dead (aged 45) lying face-down on his bed in his third-floor Paris apartment, No. 19 Rue de Tournon, on July 18, 1792. Very good condition. This listing includes the complete entire original newspaper, NOT just a clipping or a page of it. STEPHEN A. GOLDMAN HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS stands behind all o…
