Paiste Vintage 1979 2002 crash used/owned in studio/tour by Steve Smith/Journey - $369 - (Chicago, IL)
This amazing paiste 2002 black label 16" crash cymbal was owned and used by Steve Smith of Journey when he first joined the band in 1979 while still a paiste endorser. According to Steve this particular crash cymbal was used on the Journey album Evolution (1979) and subsequent tour that year. This paiste was purchased by me through Don Bennett Drums Studios several years ago when Don was selling a collection of vintage gear for Steve. This cymbal was signed by Steve and the letter of authenticity from Bennett studios will accompany the cymbal as well as pictures of Steve with the collection of cymbals from that era that was purchased by me from Don Bennett. I have sold the other cymbals a few years back when the pictures were taken but I held onto this one because it was the "special one" out of all of them to me and I am a great Smith fan so I just didn't want to part with it but financial circumstances force me to let it go. This paiste is in great condition and has light wear (stickmarks, fingerprints and light handling wear from that first year of Steve's touring with Journey) then it was stored away for about 25 years. There are no cracks or any other issues besides the light wear mentioned. Just listen to the whole Evolution album; it's all over it...there's no mistaking this sweet, shimmery 16". This is an awesome part of rock history and If it doesn't sell I will gladly hold onto it. I will consider a best offer but it must be close to what it is listed for. To me, Steve is probably the greatest drummer on the planet and he just keeps evolving with age (if that's even possible). He can do anything and continues to reinvent himself to the astonishment of all who follow him. I have been honored to be the guardian of this cymbal and hope it gets passed on to a deserving drummer. Thanks
