Large Nicely Carved Antique Black Forest German Animated Cuckoo and Quail Clock - $650 - (Waupun, WI)

Offered for your consideration is this large, nicely-carved Antique Black Forest Cuckoo/Quail Clock, circa 1900 - 1910. The clock measures approx. 21 1/2" tall by 16" wide and is surrounded with very detailed leaf carvings. The quail bird emerges every 15 min. to call out the quarter hours with three peep calls.Example : quarter after the hour; peep, peep, peep half hour; peep, peep, peep - peep, peep, peep, and will continue to progress until the full hour when after the full progression of the four quail calls the cuckoo bird will emerge from the other door to call out the hour. A double coiled gong is also in play as the birds present themselves to remind you of the passing time, (one tone used with the quail call and another used with the cuckoo). The animated hand-carved wooden birds have moving wings and beaks and bow as they appear to perform for you and your guests. The overall condition of the clock is very good for the age, the minor flaws I have found are; a chip of wood missing from the dial edge on the right side, a couple of small leaf chips, and an old repair to the very top leaf on the crest, however none of these I find distracting. When tested the clock functions as it should, but is being sold as found as the movement will most likely need a cleaning and perhaps an adjustment after shipping. Included is the pendulum and the three required weights that came with the clock.
