Exceptional and rare, here is an "original" c.1897 cabinet photograph of iconic Chiricahua Apache Medicine Man and leader, Geronimo. Having surrendered to the U.S. Army 131 years ago, on September 4, 1886, he lived the rest of his life as both a prisoner of war and historic attraction, until his death from pneumonia on February 17, 1909. This photograph was taken by photographer George A. Addison in Fort Sill Oklahoma Territory, where Geronimo spent the bulk of his house-confinement. It has Addison's identifying imprint on the front of the cabinet card...... A vintage photograph of Geronimo is considered one of the "Holy Grails" of Native American images to most collectors. The cabinet photograph measures 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 and is in excellent condition. The logo in the image will not appear in the purchased photograph.
