This is a rare, antique, Yoruba tribally made and used, beaded diviner's Ewu Sango - Sango vest which was worn by a Sango priest when in a state of possession by the Sango deity during ceremonies. This antique Yoruba Sango beaded shirt is made from cotton cloth and decorated with glass seed beads and cowrie shells on both the front and back. Some of the symbols used here are snakes ancestral faces, birds which also represent the ancestors and crocodiles. These Sango vests are considered empowered with spiritual and medicinal energy and thus empower the wearer with 'ase' - authority and command.This beaded Yoruba tribal tunic specimen comes from Nigeria, Africa and measures 25 inches long by 22 1/2 inches wide at the widest spot along the bottom of the shirt.
