This is the best and most advanced effects processor ever built. This unit has 8-Channels of AES I/0 (4 AES In / 4 AES out), SPDIF, ADAT, 2-Channels 96k Analog XLR I/O, ethernet connectivity for the EVE/NET remote control unit, midi, PCMCIA, serial, WC. Note that this unit is exactly the same as the Firewire (FW) edition except for the FW connection which is by no means a limitation as using AES connections is still the most trouble free way to connect, especially with ProTools HD/HDX. There's no point in paying extra $ for a FW unit if you're not going to utilize the FW connection. FW upgrade, however, is available. Completely different effects can be allocated over 8-Channels (8 separate mono, 4 separate stereo, etc.) For example, stereo reverb on channels 1/2, delay on 3/4, pitch change on 5/6, etc...Other possibilities are stereo input with 96k 5.1 surround reverb (!) Don't waste your time taxing your CPU with plug-ins. NOTHING compares with the fidelity of jitter-free DSP based time-based processing for reverb, delay, modulation effects, etc. Oh, and if you're a guitar player... check out the artist presets! BTW, the optional EVE/NET controller duplicates the full control panel in a desktop controller so that the unit can be controlled remotely via Ethernet - highly recommend option!
