Lot ANTIQUE GERMAN HAND-CARVED PUNCH & JUDY WOOD GLOVE PUPPETS Polychrome Paint - $1,650 - (Redding, CT)

I am pleased to be offering for sale this incredible lot of 5 antique German hand-carved, polychrome painted Punch and Judy wooden glove puppets. As you can see, this lot includes: Punch, Judy, the King, Queen and the Crocodile. As you can also see, the puppets have cloth bodies with nicely carved wooden heads and hands. The four human puppets come with wooden stands for ease of display in your home. The puppets are roughly 12" to 14" including their clothing. My understanding is that the puppets are of German origin and date to the late 19th or early 20th Century. Given their age and use, the puppets' clothing does show signs of wear including soiling and fading. Please note, there is a tear in the underarm fabric of the Punch puppet, as pictured; this can be easily repaired, but I will leave that to you. Fortunately, the wooden hands and painted faces are in very good shape for their age, as shown. Whether you collect antique Punch and Judy puppets in particular, or wooden glove puppets in general, this is a great set to add to your collection! Thanks for looking!
