Offering this original antique Impressionist oil painting on artists board signed George Turland. His full name was George Turland Goosey and he was not only an accomplished and exhibited artist but also a noted architect in his day. This painting is from an estate of a collector whose collections encompassed American and European paintings, antique sculptures, furniture and other highly collectible memorabilia. Painting is oil on artists board and is in original untouched, as found condition and appears to have the original period frame. I believe that It dates to the early 1900's and it appears to depict St. Ives Harbor? The painting is in overall very good condition and has no scratches, holes or repairs. It might benefit from a cleaning as there is some frame rub wear on the outside edges of the painting as shown. The frame shows only minor signs of age wear and use. Painting size is 15 3/4 by 19 3/4 inches and the outer frame dimensions are 19 1/4 by 23 1/4 inches. It is signed by the artist on the lower right as shown. Beautiful, original work of art. Turland (1877-1947) of Northampton, England, George Turland Goosey made a name for himself initially as an architect in America using the surname Turland Goosey. He designed some of the early skyscrapers, “the famous Friars Club, the theatrical center of America’s capital”, and no less than seven Roman Catholic churches. He was also an accomplished etcher - his print Moonlight on a Venetian Canal winning first prize in the annual exhibition in New York in 1914. In 1921, however, he decided to try his hand at painting and returned to England, where he settled in the art colony at St Ives, Cornwall.
