Handpainted Genuine Nippon Scenic Gilt Moriage Hatpin Holder (1891-1921) This is a lovely old genuine Nippon hand-painted Hatpin Holder with a beautiful old Japan scene. It is in great condition for age and dates between 1891 and 1921. These are the years that the McKinley Tariff Act required that all porcelain be marked with the country of origin. Though "Nippon" translates "Japan", it wasn't until 1921 that the U.S. Government changed its position to having the porcelains marked Japan instead of Nippon. The color is vibrant and the moriage is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips. This interesting hatpin holder measures about 5 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
