16" Tall Nippon Vase: This rare Hand Painted Nippon Vase has everything in an exquisite designed vase you could wish for. Illustrated in Joan Van Patten's Fifth Series Book, page 138, illustrated as one of a matched pair. I have owned this vase for over 20 years and have yet to find the mate, seen it pictured, or up for sale. I doubt anyone would have broken up the set so must assume one is lost. This truly is a rare design in all cobalt & gold it stands out as a beauty from Nippon. One side of the vase depicts Mountains in the background with a house on stilts at the shore of a lake and a pier with small boats. A large Bonzai stands boldly in front. The other side similar with mountains, trees and lake front, with no house or pier. The other sections between the two scenes are adorned with flowers, each with an Green Enamel bead center. There are many other areas around the vase that also use the Green Enamel beads in its design. The entire design on the vase is outlined in luscious gold trim. The pictures posted will give you the best description! Marked on the bottom with the JVP back stamp #38 Imperial Nippon. Measures 16" Tall, 5" across the handles and a 3 1/4" diameter base. The only condition to report would be a very slight rubbing on the tops of handles.
