Ludwig Black Diamond Pearl 5.5" x 14" NICKEL Super Classic Pre Serial Snare When I had the throw-off removed "4/1961" was written on the opposite side. ___________________ Wrap has MINIMAL to ZERO fade/darkening as can be seen from the photos. Bearing edges are clean & the drum is in the round. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT. All hardware has been removed, cleaned & polished with Cape Cod Clothes. Hardware shows VERY light wear. I polished the wrap with NOVUS 1 & 2 and it is smooth. A few light nicks/wear remained after polishing - mostly around the badge area. Please ZOOM in on all the photos to see the condition. Batter side head is used WEATHERKING Vintage A. Reso head is used 60's Ludwig head. Snare wires are original to the snare. THE GREAT THING ABOUT EARLY 60'S LUDWIG IS THAT QUALITY CONTROL WAS MUCH BETTER THAN MID-60'S ONWARD WHEN RINGO WAS THE RAGE AND PRODUCTION RAMPED GREATLY UPWARD (AND QUALITY CONTROL TOOK A BIT OF A DIVE). THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF EARLY LUDWIG QUALITY. GRADING VINTAGE DRUMS TAKES A BIT OF COURAGE AS IT IS A SUBJECTIVE AT BEST. THIS BDP SNARE IS WELL OVER A 9.3+ (ON A 1-10 SCALE). A TEN WOULD BE FACTORY NEW WITH ZERO DEFECTS. AS STATED BEFORE ... THERE ARE FEW NICKS OR SCRATCHES IN THE WRAP. THIS IS A 56 YEAR OLD SNARE DETAILED TO GET IT AS CLOSE TO FACTORY AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT DOING ANY MODIFICATIONS TO IT. PRICE REFLECTS ALL OF THE ABOVE.
